Past, Present, and Future – Discover Hälsinglands Museum

You’ll find Hälsinglands Museum in the heart of Hudiksvall, housed in a former bank palace that was converted into a museum in 1937. Both cultural history and art-focused exhibitions are featured, aiming to explore our history and present in various ways.

The museum is a regional institution where you can experience acclaimed exhibitions, educational programs, collections, and archives. Two major permanent exhibitions offer historical perspectives on the region: Changing Patterns, showcasing the long history of textiles, and The Master from Fläcka, providing insight into the religious imagery of the Middle Ages.

The museum is a natural meeting place that highlights diverse narratives about human history, society, and existential questions. Active social dialogue, along with interdisciplinary and democratic work across boundaries and norms, creates a space for the questions of the future.

Admission to Hälsinglands Museum is free. Entry fees may apply during certain special events.

Shop & Café

The museum shop offers unique gifts, arts and crafts, toys, and books on current and cultural history. Our reception, located in the café, handles bookings, answers your questions, and provides information about the museum’s activities. Daily newspapers and current magazines are also available here.

How to Get Here

Hälsinglands Museum is located in central Hudiksvall at Storgatan 31. There are several ways to reach the museum:

  • Bus: City bus lines stop at the nearest station, Hudiksvall Centrum. Regional buses stop at Hudiksvall Travel Center, about a 5-minute walk from the museum.
  • Train: Take the "X-trafik" or SJ trains to Hudiksvall Station. The museum is about a 5-minute walk from there.
  • Car: The museum is located at Storgatan 31. Parking is available behind the museum building. The road around the museum is one-way, so circle the block to access the parking via Sundsesplanaden.
  • Bike: Bicycle parking is available in front of the museum.

Accessibility

Designated parking for visitors with disabilities is located at the entrance, which is accessible by wheelchair or mobility scooter.
The museum has an elevator to reach exhibitions on the second and third floors.
Strollers and wheelchairs can be used in all exhibitions.
Accessible toilets are available on the first and third floors.
Live plants are present in the café. Occasionally, plants may appear in other parts of the museum as well.
During the installation of new exhibitions, dust and strong odors may occur. If you are sensitive, please contact us before your visit.
